An Exceptional Arts and Crafts period Elm panelled and wing backed Armchair with Owl's head arm terminals. In the C17th and C18th centuries, these box seated and winged panel back chairs were often used as a restful and draft free means by farmers to keep vigil over their flocks of sheep during Lambing season, hence the reference as 'Lambing Chairs'. Maybe the 'Night Owl' arms add further reference to the users watchful occupation! This wonderfully angular version, complete with traditional storage or pot compartment to the rear is dated around 1900 and possibly originates from Wales. Seat dimensions: 46cm high x 60 deep.
