A Living Room Suite by Alain Gaubert

An Exceptional 1970s Living Room Suite by Alain Gaubert. This 'One off' Lounge Table and matching suite of 6 chairs was constructed in 1978 as a special commission for the French TV celebrity Francine Gomez - Babelio. Alain Gaubert drew inspiration from the 'Japanese' low ergonomic seating/ dining aesthetic, to which this lounge suite adheres. Low and easy in style, the extra large 'Tea' Table is complimented by a suite of comfortable easy chairs with Gaubert construction details. The sculptural 'Pebble' like table is constructed in solid sycamore with 2 special Oak strips to the centre and feature pegged cleats to plank joints to the 6cm thick top. The chairs display typical Gaubert approach to design aesthetic with emphasis on cross grain jointing and heavy profiles with soft, rounded edges. Blonde woods were Gaubert's timber of choice but this suite is particularly unusual in use of Sycamore with feature Oak strips. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a special suite that offers unique Lounge furnishing possibilities as an alternative Coffee Table set or Japanese dining style.
