A Stunning recumbent marble statue
Width: 225cm (88.6")
Height: 61cm (24")
Depth: 75cm (29.5")
Entirely hand carved by Lluïsa Sallent (b. 1934 Barcelona) in 1981 from one block of white marble, resting on a grey marble plinth, this incredible larger than life size female figure is extremely well executed. Of captivating form and movement, muscle and bone structure are evident underneath the soft flowing curves of marble which mesmerisingly resembles the soft hues of human skin. Drawing inspiration from the sculptures of Joan Rebull and his famous 'Little Gypsy Girl' 1933 in the National Museum in Barcelona, Sallent's sculptures have an essence of 1930s sculptural style. This Sculpture was bought directly from the artist in 1981 and resided in the garden of a grand Barcelona residence until now.
